According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the White House made a direct call to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, urging a reconsideration of Balogun's red card received during the US's 2-0 victory over Bosnia. The red card was issued after Balogun stepped on Bosnian defender Trik Mohramovic's ankle, a decision made following a VAR review.

Despite the White House's involvement, FIFA officials insisted that the decision was made independently by the disciplinary committee, citing their autonomous authority.
