Transportation Minister Regev Vows Michael Regev Will Become State Comptroller Despite High Court Intervention

Israeli Transportation Minister and Cabinet member Miri Regev strongly criticized the judiciary's interference in parliamentary decisions during a Thursday interview with Yaakov Bardugo. She condemned the Supreme Court's involvement in the selection of the State Comptroller as "regrettable" and warned it sets a dangerous precedent. Regev asserted that despite the court's intervention, the coalition will ensure that their candidate, attorney Michael Regev, is ultimately appointed to the position.

Regev also addressed allegations of a "rebellion" within the Shin Bet security service, related to their refusal to investigate leaks deemed highly dangerous by Prime Minister Netanyahu. She confirmed tensions exist and emphasized that all leaks, especially those harming national security, must be investigated. Additionally, she sharply criticized reserve officer Nitzan Alon, accusing him of engaging in a political campaign by leaking information from the cabinet and briefing journalists.

The minister further attacked former Cabinet member Gadi Eizenkot, dismissing his leadership capabilities and accusing him of aligning with left-wing and Muslim Brotherhood interests. She stated that the October 7 attacks opened Israelis' eyes and insisted that only Netanyahu can lead Israel through current challenges.

On the security front, Regev reaffirmed Israel Defense Forces' presence in the security zone in Lebanon, stating the IDF will remain until Hezbollah is disarmed. She highlighted a strategic separation between Iran and Hezbollah and noted close coordination between Netanyahu and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Regev quoted Trump’s promise to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and warned that if diplomacy fails, Israel will take necessary action.
