A 17-year-old resident of Tulkarm was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of attempting to steal the car belonging to presenter Yael Bar Zohar and actor Guy Zuarz in Ramat Hasharon. Authorities allege the suspect managed to start the vehicle using an advanced ignition computer but then abandoned it while it was still running. Police officers from the Glilot station in the Yarkon district apprehended the suspect in a nearby vehicle, which he allegedly broke into after leaving the first car. Property belonging to the vehicle owners was found in his possession.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours in Ramat Hasharon. The suspect allegedly approached the celebrity couple's residential area and broke into their car. After starting the vehicle, he reportedly left it running for unknown reasons. Responding police located the suspect in a different vehicle nearby, which he is accused of entering after abandoning the first car. A search of the suspect yielded items belonging to the owners of the stolen vehicle.
This car theft attempt is part of a recent increase in vehicle theft incidents in the central region. In response to a rise in fraud cases where criminals use forged documents to transfer vehicle ownership, the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety recently launched a new digital service. This service allows vehicle owners to pre-emptively block ownership transfers at Israel Post branches, making it harder for fraudsters to illegally re-register vehicles.
