Police in Ramat Hasharon thwarted an attempted car theft overnight between Saturday and Sunday at the home of Israeli media personalities Yael Bar Zohar and Guy Zuarz. Officers from the Yarkon district apprehended a 17-year-old Palestinian minor, a resident of Tulkarm, who was in Israel illegally.
The minor is suspected of being part of an organized ring that planned to steal the couple's vehicle using advanced technology. The incident began when an "Ituran" tracking company detected unauthorized access to the couple's car and alerted the police. Investigators believe the suspect managed to bypass the car's security systems and start the engine.
Instead of fleeing immediately, the suspect reportedly moved to a nearby vehicle, suggesting an intention to steal two cars simultaneously with an accomplice. Rapid police response, alerted by the tracking company, led to the area being cordoned off, and the suspect was caught before he could escape.
Inside Bar Zohar and Zuarz's car, officers discovered sophisticated electronic equipment, including transmitters and bypass devices, believed to have been used to intercept frequencies and unlock the vehicles without a key. The minor was arrested and taken for questioning at the Glilot police station, facing charges of illegal stay, conspiracy to commit a crime, and attempted car theft.
Police are now working to trace the minor's entry into Israel and identify the accomplice involved in the planned theft. The quick actions of the tracking company and the police prevented the theft, and the couple's car was recovered.
