Haifa Funeral Held for Woman Stabbed 20 Times by Ex-Husband

Relatives and friends gathered on Friday, October 30, at the Darchei Shalom cemetery in Haifa to bid farewell to Yana Zykova, who was murdered a week prior, on October 23, by her ex-husband in her apartment in Kiryat Haim. The victim's mother, Nadya, and father, Vladimir, traveled from Ukraine for the funeral. The mother, Nadya, who arrived in Israel two days earlier, expressed her grief, crying out, "He killed my daughter! Nobody could help her. He inflicted 20 stab wounds all over her body. It's terrible what he did to her. Why? Why?" She mentioned speaking with her six-year-old grandson, who witnessed the attack, by phone and hopes to see him the following week. Social services employees are currently with the child. Neighbors described the incident as a "terrible tragedy" and noted that the victim had expressed fear of her ex-husband, who had caused her "a lot of problems." They also described her as an "exemplary mother" who lived alone and raised her child. Emergency medical services attempted to save the victim's life after arriving at the scene, but she was pronounced dead. Police have detained the ex-husband and are investigating the murder. The mother has vowed to do everything possible to raise her grandson, providing him with love, care, and a safe home.
