Barak Yitzhaki has made a strong debut as the new coach of Cypriot football club Anorthosis, leading them to a 2-0 victory over Omonia Aradippou. The Cypriot media has been impressed not only by the result but also by the significant changes Yitzhaki has implemented in the team's attitude, energy, and locker room atmosphere.
Local sports outlets and fan sites are highlighting the impact of Yitzhaki, a former player for Anorthosis, noting substantial improvements compared to the team's performance before his arrival. A report in Cypriot "Goal" by Iakovos Kakouris described Yitzhaki as intensely engaged on the sidelines, a stark contrast to the "calm footballer" known from 14 years prior. Kakouris observed Yitzhaki constantly pacing, issuing instructions, and demanding high pressing and ball-chasing from his players, suggesting a shift in Anorthosis's playing philosophy from a more defensive approach.
Fan site Anorthosis24 echoed the sentiment, stating that Yitzhaki's "ideal start" not only secured a crucial win but also restored the club's "faith and professional respect." The site noted a palpable change in the locker room's mood, with players exhibiting renewed energy and drive. Yitzhaki's management of the squad, emphasizing the use of the entire roster to foster healthy competition and unity, was also praised as a significant gain for the team.
Further tactical analysis from fan websites pointed to high pressing as a key characteristic of Yitzhaki's approach, with players pushing forward to limit opponents' options and force long balls. The intention is to create a more intense style of play where the team imposes itself on opponents even without the ball, with the challenge now being to make this a consistent feature of Anorthosis's game.
