Israel's Shin Bet security agency has been contacting Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip in recent months, presenting them with a difficult ultimatum: be killed along with their families in an airstrike on their home, or come out and be killed alone. This was reported Thursday by the Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.

According to the report, several Hamas operatives have recently been killed in side streets or on rooftops after receiving phone calls from Shin Bet officers. One notable incident occurred recently when Mohammed al-Bukh was killed on the roof of a shelter for displaced people in Khan Younis. His family told the newspaper that al-Bukh received a call from an Israeli Shin Bet officer warning him he was targeted. The officer presented him with the choice: be killed in an attack on the building where he was with his family, or go to the roof and be killed alone. Al-Bukh reportedly chose the latter and was killed by a small missile on the roof. His cousin stated that al-Bukh's aunt was seriously injured trying to prevent him from going to the roof.

Sources in Gaza told the newspaper that at least five such incidents have occurred in recent months. One source indicated that Israel employs this tactic against junior operatives, while senior figures are targeted with heavy bombs or multiple suicide drones, even when civilians might be present.

The IDF recently announced the elimination of several Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives in Gaza who were advancing terror plots against Israeli forces and citizens and working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities, in violation of the ceasefire. Among those killed were Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad Baraka, a Nukhba commando involved in the October 7th abductions; Omar Awaisallah, a Nukhba squad commander; and Mutaz Mahmoud Muhammad Al-Namer, a Nukhba operative. All were eliminated from the air to neutralize their threat.

Concurrently, IDF forces attacked three operatives emerging from a tunnel shaft west of Khan Younis. An aircraft struck the shaft and the operatives, with hits confirmed. Secondary explosions indicated the presence of weapons in the shaft. Southern Command forces are operating in the area to neutralize immediate threats. The IDF continues extensive operations to destroy underground infrastructure in Gaza, recently destroying a 1.5-kilometer tunnel in northern Gaza.
