Translated & summarized from Srugim by baba

Hebrew · 1 newsroom

Several incumbent Members of Knesset and new candidates are left out of the Knesset following recent elections and will await government formation to potentially enter. MK Zvi Sukkot of Religious Zionism, four Shas MKs, and MK Yaakov Tessler of United Torah Judaism are among those affected. Their entry depends on factors like the "Norwegian Law" or government coalition agreements. Other parties like Yisrael Beiteinu and Likud also have candidates waiting for potential openings.

  • MK Zvi Sukkot and four Shas MKs are among those left out of the Knesset after election results.
  • Their entry into the Knesset depends on government formation and potential resignations under the "Norwegian Law".
  • MK Yaakov Tessler of United Torah Judaism also faces a wait, with potential entry through internal party agreements.
  • New candidates from Likud, Otzma Yehudit, and the Democrats are also waiting for Knesset seats.
  • The "Norwegian Law" does not apply during election periods or transitional governments, complicating entry.

Several incumbent Members of Knesset (MKs) and new candidates will have to wait for the formation of a new government to enter the Knesset, following the recent election results. Among the most disappointed is MK Zvi Sukkot of the Religious Zionism party, who was placed seventh on the list, which secured only six mandates. He is currently outside the Knesset, with his entry dependent on potential resignations under the "Norwegian Law" or the formation of a government. This is not the first time Sukkot has been bypassed; in the previous Knesset, Bezalel Smotrich secured another candidate, pushing Sukkot to an unlikely 16th spot, from which he eventually entered after Smotrich resigned under the Norwegian Law.

Similarly, four Haredi MKs from Shas, Moshe Abutbul, Uriel Buso, Yossi Taieb, and Jonathan Misrachi, are also left out after the party's mandate count dropped from 11 to 6. In the United Torah Judaism party, MK Yaakov Tessler will also have to wait, as three new candidates were placed ahead of him. However, due to past internal rotation agreements between Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael, Tessler might still enter the government even if United Torah Judaism is not part of it.

Other MKs facing a similar wait include Evgeny Sova from Yisrael Beiteinu and Naor Shiri from the "Achva" list led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, who is 14th on their list and will also rely on resignations. Ironically, 24-year-old Jonathan Shilo, whose mother is a friend of Bennett, will be in the Knesset.

New candidates also remain on the sidelines. In Likud, two candidates, Shlomo Lerner and Itzik Bonzel, are waiting. In Otzma Yehudit, Tzachi Eliyahu and Yossi Goldberger are in eighth and ninth place respectively, both new candidates. In the Democrats, protest activist Moshe Radman did not enter the Knesset, with the article suggesting the party is not particularly regretful about his exclusion.
