Singer Celine Dion will perform original songs written and composed by Paul McCartney for the animated film "High in the Clouds." The movie is based on a 2005 children's book of the same name, co-authored by McCartney. Dion also voices the character of ShortTail, the mother of the protagonist, a squirrel named Wirly (voiced by Himash Patel). The plot follows Wirly's struggle against the owl Gretchen (Hannah Waddingham), who has outlawed music in their town.
The film's voice cast also includes McCartney himself, Idris Elba, Lionel Richie, Ringo Starr, and Jimmy Fallon. Waddingham, Patel, and McCartney will also perform some of the film's songs. The original score was composed by Michael Giacchino, based on themes by McCartney. The film is directed by Toby Genkel from a screenplay by John Crocker.
"High in the Clouds" is produced by Gaumont in collaboration with 88 Pictures and other production companies, including McCartney's MPL Communications. The announcement of Dion's song recordings comes shortly after she concluded 16 comeback performances in Paris, her first major shows since canceling her world tour in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and her ongoing battle with stiff-person syndrome.
The film has already been sold for distribution in numerous countries worldwide, including Israel. This news follows other recent developments, such as Dion receiving a Barbie doll in her likeness and a reported reconciliation between Phil Collins and Paul McCartney after more than 20 years.
