The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday demolished a memorial in the Palestinian village of Duma, in the West Bank, that had honored terrorists who murdered Israelis for decades. Additional memorials in nearby villages were also destroyed as part of the operation. The action followed demands by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Member of Knesset Tzvi Sukkot to remove sites commemorating terrorists throughout Judea and Samaria. Sukkot, who also chairs the Subcommittee on Judea and Samaria, and Smotrich had provided the military with a document detailing dozens of such memorials in Palestinian villages. MK Sukkot praised the demolition, calling it a significant achievement in the fight against the public commemoration of terrorists and the glorification of those who murdered Jews. He stated that he would not accept a situation where terrorists are publicly honored, especially when memorial events are held in the presence of children. "It is inconceivable that those who harmed Jews and IDF soldiers will be commemorated and held up as heroes in the eyes of the next generation," Sukkot said, urging the expansion of this operation to other sites. "I congratulate the IDF on the operation and call on them to continue removing any memorial that commemorates terrorists in the areas of Judea and Samaria. We will not allow the commemoration of terror to become part of our public space."
