The Portland Trail Blazers and Israeli player Dani Avdija are off to a strong start to the NBA season with a 2-0 record, following wins against Phoenix and Sacramento. Avdija has been a standout performer in these early games, drawing praise from American basketball analysts.
Former NBA champion Channing Frye commended the team's smart, unselfish play and strong defense, noting that Avdija, like Ja Morant and Damian Lillard, is making the right plays. Frye expressed his admiration for the team's cohesion, stating they look like they've played together for years despite being a new unit.
Commentary from Rip City Project suggests the Blazers' coaching staff may have learned a crucial lesson: Avdija should be more involved in initiating plays earlier in games. While acknowledging the importance of Lillard and Morant, the outlet emphasized that the offense's success hinges on Avdija's ability to pressure defenses, rather than passively waiting for the ball. They specifically called for player Mike Nurie to get the ball to Avdija, whom they identified as the team's best player.
Similarly, Roundtable highlighted Avdija as Portland's top player, even with a revamped roster. They noted his adaptability to the team's needs and his role in elevating the Blazers last season. The publication sees a greater opportunity for the team this year, attributing it to Avdija's leadership and the positive attitude he instills in his teammates. The article concludes that Avdija's ability to contribute without forcing plays is critical for a team with limited scoring opportunities, and he will be the primary reason for their continued progress.
