As Israeli politics provides ample drama, three Netflix series are recommended for viewers to watch before the upcoming elections, highlighting that real-life political intrigue can often surpass fictional scripts. These shows delve into scandals, power struggles, and conspiracies.
The first series, "House of Cards," follows Frank Underwood, a Democratic Congressman from South Carolina, on a revenge quest after the newly elected U.S. President reneges on a promise to appoint him Secretary of State. Through schemes, leaks, and manipulation, he climbs the political ladder, exploiting journalists, politicians, and government officials.
"Borgen" tells the story of Birgitte Nyborg Christensen, a centrist politician who unexpectedly becomes Denmark's first female Prime Minister. The series also features news anchor Katrine Fønsmark, political communication advisor Casper Juul, news editor Torben Friis, Birgitte's husband Philip, and journalist Hanne Holm.
"The Diplomat" focuses on experienced diplomat Catherine "Kate" Wyler, portrayed by Keri Russell, who specializes in international crises and is appointed the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. In her role, she must balance international interests, deal with officials in London and Washington, and forge alliances. Simultaneously, she navigates a complex relationship with her husband, Hal, a diplomat and former ambassador whose experience and connections aid her but also create tension when he acts independently.
