Aharon Barak, the former President of the Supreme Court, has resigned from the state inquiry committee investigating the affair of naval vessels and submarines due to medical reasons. The Judicial Authority announced that Barak would be unable to participate in discussions for the coming months because of his health. The statement added that since "postponing discussions would harm the committee's work, Barak requested to end his role and for another chairman to be appointed in his place."

Following Barak's departure, committee member and former Supreme Court Justice Zvi Zylbertal was appointed as the new chairman. Additionally, former President of the Lod District Court, Judge Ruth Lorenc, was appointed as a new member of the committee. The remaining members of the committee, Prof. Karnit Flug, Gideon Frank, and Brig. Gen. Prof. Yaakov Bortman, will continue their service.

Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit expressed his "deep appreciation to former President Aharon Barak for his dedicated and professional work and his significant contribution to leading the committee's work since its establishment until today," wishing him "robust health."

The inquiry committee had previously found deficiencies in procurement deals worth billions and decisions that endangered national security.
