The owner of a daycare center in Ariel is set to appear in court today for a remand extension hearing, with two assistants to follow on Wednesday. The allegations involve severe violence against toddlers, including choking, throwing objects, starvation, slapping, and dragging children. The suspicions arose after an examination of security camera footage at the facility. Parents expressed outrage that their children continued to attend the daycare even after police had collected the surveillance recordings.

The case came to light when an animal instructor, visiting the daycare for an activity, noticed unusual behavior towards a child and reported it to the police. According to Oren Hazan, a parent, the police took about two weeks to thoroughly investigate the suspicions, initially considering closing the case. However, upon reviewing the security footage, which was collected on a Thursday, investigators immediately identified violence and arrested the daycare manager and one of the assistants, later arresting all staff.

Hazan described the horrific details revealed to parents, including daily, hourly, and minute-by-minute alleged abuse. He recounted that during court proceedings, descriptions of the abuse were presented, with one instance detailing 36 acts of violence in a single day. He stated that if a child did not fall asleep, they would be choked for up to a minute until they lost consciousness. Hazan also criticized the police for initially informing some parents that it was safe to continue sending their children to the daycare after the cameras were collected, only for a closure order to be issued days later once the footage was thoroughly reviewed.

One particularly disturbing moment for Hazan involved his own daughter, who, when asked by his wife Rinat what happens to a child who doesn't sleep, demonstrated choking, mirroring the descriptions presented in court. Hazan emphasized that for the parents, this is the beginning of a difficult and complex struggle, and he wants the police to fully investigate and expose the extent of the alleged abuse against the toddlers.
