Following a fatal terror attack that claimed the lives of soldiers Ron Yonatan Reitman and Yuval Shai Suilam, Israeli security forces have launched a large-scale operation in Hebron, expected to last several days. The operation includes searches for weapons, interrogations of dozens of suspects, and movement restrictions for residents in the area. Residents are permitted to leave the region through three designated checkpoints where they will undergo security checks and interrogations, with anyone raising suspicion being taken for further questioning.

The operation commenced after a series of measures taken throughout the day, including a lockdown on Hebron and Halhul, roadblocks, and mapping the homes of the terrorists. IDF and Border Police forces are operating in the homes of the terrorists and other suspects, as well as in nearby villages. Additionally, forces have begun dismantling illegal structures near the encounter site, which the IDF stated could pose a security risk. Concurrently, operations are ongoing at dozens of other locations across Judea and Samaria amid concerns of further attack attempts.

Initial investigations suggest the terrorists, armed with a rifle, pistol, and extensive ammunition, departed from Hebron intending to carry out a significant attack against civilians on Route 35. However, the IDF estimates that after realizing they could not reach the road due to troop readiness, they changed their plan and opened fire on an IDF checkpoint. The ensuing 20-minute firefight resulted in casualties among IDF soldiers. Following the exchange, additional forces and senior commanders were dispatched, a pursuit was initiated, and roadblocks were established. The two terrorists were subsequently killed.

A senior officer stated that the soldiers' preparedness prevented a major attack on civilians, albeit at a heavy cost. "The force prevented a very serious attack against civilians. We paid a heavy price, but had the force not been positioned there, the terrorists could have reached civilian routes," he said. Security officials are concerned about additional attack attempts in Judea and Samaria and have decided to expand operational activities, increase checks and roadblocks, and prepare for further arrests and counter-terrorism operations. The IDF reiterated that the Hebron operation will continue for several days, with ongoing efforts across Judea and Samaria to locate weapons and terrorist infrastructure.
