Two terrorists were killed Friday morning in a shooting attack at the Yehuda Junction near Hebron, after opening fire on Israeli soldiers. The attack, which lasted about 20 minutes, resulted in five casualties: two critically wounded, one seriously wounded, and two lightly wounded. The injured were evacuated to Shaare Zedek and Hadassah Ein Kerem hospitals in Jerusalem.

Security footage shows the two assailants arriving in a stolen vehicle with an Israeli license plate, exiting, and immediately opening fire on soldiers manning a temporary checkpoint. The terrorists, believed to be affiliated with Hamas in Hebron, were armed with an M4 rifle, a pistol, and additional ammunition. They were reportedly heading to carry out a larger-scale attack in a civilian area when they encountered the checkpoint.

Following the incident, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held an urgent assessment with senior security officials. He revealed that a large quantity of ammunition was found in the terrorists' vehicle, intended for a more extensive attack. Zamir stated that the soldiers' swift response prevented a more severe incident. The assessment included the Commander of the Central Command, Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, and heads of operations and intelligence.

In response to the attack, Zamir approved the Central Command's readiness for a full lockdown of Hebron and surrounding villages. He also ordered increased efforts for arrests, enhanced intelligence gathering, and reinforcement of forces in the Central Command as needed. Security forces, including the Duvdevan unit and aerial assets, were deployed for extensive searches for additional suspects, and a closure was imposed on Hebron and nearby villages, with traffic routes blocked.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also held a security assessment and canceled a planned campaign visit to Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market. The attack occurs amidst a recent rise in terror incidents in the West Bank, including stone-throwing and riots during the olive harvest season.
