A security coordinator for the "Gideonim Ridge" settlement, located southeast of Nablus, has been indicted for shooting a Palestinian woman and attempting to obstruct the investigation. The coordinator, identified as Pinchas Ran, is responsible for the security of settlements and farms within his jurisdiction and is armed with an assault rifle and operates an all-terrain vehicle. Prior to the incident, military officials had repeatedly warned Ran against exceeding his designated area of responsibility and to adhere strictly to regulations, particularly regarding opening fire.

On September 18, 2026, Ran left his home in Givatot Olam and drove towards the Demski farm. He was joined by a career soldier, referred to as 'N', who was armed. En route, Ran decided to deviate from his planned route and enter the village of Akarba, which was outside his jurisdiction. While in the village, Ran stopped several passersby and checked their identification without legal justification or authority.

Ran then noticed a vehicle driven by a local resident, identified as 'R', with his wife, 'A', in the passenger seat. Ran, without authority and exceeding his role, ordered the vehicle to stop. 'R', recognizing that the occupants of the all-terrain vehicle were not soldiers and that one was masked, and fearing violence, accelerated and drove past Ran's vehicle. In response, Ran drew his weapon and fired at least three shots at the departing vehicle, intending to hit the car and its occupants. Two bullets struck the rear of the vehicle and 'A', causing her serious injury. She sustained a penetrating wound to her upper left back, with a bullet lodging near her heart, and another wound near her buttocks. She was hospitalized, underwent surgery to remove the bullets, and required several days of hospitalization.

After continuing to the Demski farm as planned, Ran and 'N' returned to the scene of the shooting on their way back. Ran exited his vehicle and searched for shell casings in an effort to thwart a judicial process. Later, when questioned by security forces about hearing of a shooting incident, Ran denied any knowledge or presence at the scene, again attempting to obstruct justice. The indictment charges Ran with grievous bodily harm with intent to cause disability or disfigurement, and with obstructing a judicial process.

The organization "Honenu" stated that Ran, whose brother was killed in combat on October 7, claims the shooting occurred in the air after a vehicle without license plates attempted to run him and the soldier over.
