On Thursday, October 22, an 8-year-old boy in the Negev was critically injured, reportedly after being hit by a bus whose driver fled the scene. Police later arrested a suspect, a man around 50 years old from Hura. The child was hospitalized in critical condition.

Several hours later and in a separate incident, a 12-year-old girl riding a bicycle in the settlement of Yitzhar was severely injured and is also in critical condition. Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics and IDF medics provided emergency treatment and resuscitation efforts.

The report of the boy hit in the Negev came into MDA dispatch at 13:23. He was taken to a local clinic in Hura before being evacuated by MDA ambulance to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva. "We received a report of an injured child brought to the local clinic in Hura," said MDA paramedic Ahmed Aasam. "The medics there provided first aid. According to preliminary information, he was hit by a bus. We continued medical treatment and evacuated the child to the hospital by MDA intensive care ambulance, performing resuscitation measures en route. His condition is critical, and we continue to fight for his life."

Negev District accident investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash on Highway 316, where preliminary findings suggest a bus struck a pedestrian and the driver fled. Police searched for the driver and collected evidence at the scene before making the arrest.
