Defense Minister Israel Katz launched a sharp attack on opposition leaders on Thursday, accusing them of undermining Israel's deterrence and encouraging enemies to attack the country. In a statement, Katz claimed that "every attack on Israel and all future attacks, God forbid, will be registered in the name of Yair Lapid, Naftali Bennett, Yair Golan, and their opposition colleagues."

Katz asserted that the opposition leaders "do not stop attacking the Prime Minister and myself, and casting doubt on our considerations to warn and alert, based on information in our possession, about the intentions of our enemies to attack Israel and carry out attacks on election eve or during them, in order to influence the election results."

The Defense Minister clarified that the IDF is operationally and intelligence-wise prepared to carry out preventive and defensive actions against Iran and its proxies in all arenas to deter and protect Israeli citizens, and will act immediately if required or based on decisions made and directed. Katz emphasized the importance of Israel's enemies knowing that "the watchman of Israel does not slumber and that we are aware, determined, and prepared for any possibility, regardless of any political process."

He stated that "all the criticism and statements attributing foreign considerations to us indicate detachment and narrow political considerations of their speakers, and harm Israeli deterrence and encourage our enemies to act." Katz's attack comes amid rising security tensions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated at an officers' course completion ceremony that his directive is to overthrow the Iranian regime, adding, "The regime in Iran still has not learned its lesson. There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all, to overthrow the regime in Iran. And this is my directive to the IDF, the Mossad, and the security branches."

Concurrently, Katz remarked at the ceremony that "in recent days, we have identified attempts by our enemies, primarily Iran and its proxies, to advance attacks that will affect the election results in Israel. The Iranian regime is at its weakest point ever, and we identify that this weakness could lead it to take the most extreme actions, even against the State of Israel."
