After more than five years of advocacy by the Shomron Regional Council, a NIS 18 million ($4.8 million) infrastructure project is set to commence on November 1st. The project will involve laying a lighting line along Route 555 between the settlements of Itamar and Alon Moreh, and installing a new high-voltage power line to the area. The work is expected to take approximately ten months.

The lighting initiative aims to enhance safety and security for travelers on the route, which has been the site of previous attacks, including the murder of Naama and Eitam Henkin. This new lighting will complement existing infrastructure already in place from the junction of Bracha to Itamar.

In addition to improved lighting, the project will establish a redundant high-voltage power line. Currently, Alon Moreh relies on a single line originating from the Jordan Valley and passing through Palestinian Authority territory, making maintenance and repairs difficult. The new line will provide a crucial backup, reducing dependence on the sole existing line and improving the stability of the electricity supply.

Yossi Dagan, Head of the Shomron Regional Council, stated that the project is essential for the growth of the region and the realization of a vision for one million residents. He emphasized the dual importance of the lighting, noting its security implications on a road where the Henkin couple was murdered. Dagan also thanked various government ministers and officials for their cooperation in advancing the project.

Temporary traffic arrangements will be in effect during the construction period, and drivers are advised to proceed with caution and adhere to posted instructions.
