Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of Yisrael Beiteinu, vowed to resign if he serves under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, even in a rotation government. His statement comes a week before elections, with polls showing his party leading in some surveys but trailing Likud in others. The outcome could significantly impact coalition possibilities following the upcoming Knesset elections.

  • A Walla poll shows Yisrael Beiteinu with 23 mandates, Likud with 19.
  • An i24NEWS poll shows Likud leading with 26 mandates, Yisrael Beiteinu with 20.
  • The elections for the Knesset are scheduled for next week.

Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, declared on Wednesday that he would not join a government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, even under a rotation agreement. Speaking on 103FM radio, Eisenkot stated, "I unequivocally commit that I will not serve under Netanyahu, not even in a rotation. If it happens, record it, I will resign an hour later."

The declaration comes just a week before the Knesset elections, with Eisenkot's party leading in some polls. A Walla poll published Tuesday showed Yisrael Beiteinu securing 23 mandates, making it the largest party, while the Likud received only 19. Naftali Bennett's Yamina party garnered 14 mandates in that poll.

However, an i24NEWS poll released Tuesday evening presented a different picture, with the Likud leading with 26 mandates and Eisenkot's party receiving 20. Bennett's party received 12 mandates in this survey. According to the i24NEWS poll, the coalition bloc would reach 58 mandates, just three short of the majority needed to form a government.
