Family of Murdered Leah Malka Criticizes Police After Suspect Released to House Arrest

The family of Leah Malka, who was killed in a car explosion near the Holon interchange on Highway 20, has strongly criticized the Israeli police following the decision to release the main suspect to house arrest. The police clarified that the suspect's release does not indicate the end of the investigation or removal of suspicion, emphasizing that the inquiry continues intensively under the Central District's YAMAR unit. The investigation was recently transferred to YAMAR Central by order of the police commissioner and district commander, with all leads still being examined to uncover the truth and prosecute those involved.

Leah Malka's family, through their attorney Adi Carmeli, condemned the police's handling of the case as a repeated failure to provide personal security to citizens. Carmeli highlighted that the police initially mishandled complaints filed months before the murder at the Rishon Lezion station, and the investigation into the murder has yielded no results so far. He announced that the family plans to file a lawsuit detailing the alleged failures and will persist in legal efforts until justice is served for Leah.

The Magistrate's Court in Rishon Lezion has issued a gag order prohibiting the publication of any investigation details or information that could identify suspects, effective until July 3, 2026. The family remains committed to pursuing the case until all circumstances of Leah Malka's murder are fully revealed and those responsible are held accountable.
