Carasso Energy and Tamnat, controlled by Israel Ziv, won a tender to build a 9.2 MW solar facility with energy storage over Kibbutz Hazor's treated wastewater reservoir. The 70 million shekel project is expected to start commercial operation by the end of 2028. It will produce enough electricity for about 2,000 homes annually. The companies see this as a significant step in the renewable energy sector.

  • Carasso Energy and Tamnat will build a 9.2 MW solar facility with energy storage over Kibbutz Hazor's reservoir.
  • The project involves an investment of approximately 70 million shekels and is set to begin operations by the end of 2028.
  • The facility will float solar panels on the treated wastewater reservoir and is expected to generate 15.7 million kWh annually.
  • The electricity produced will be sold to private suppliers, potentially leading to discounts for consumers.
  • This project is seen by the companies as a key step in establishing their presence in the renewable energy market.

Carasso Energy and Tamnat, an energy company controlled by Major General (res.) Israel Ziv, have won a tender from Kibbutz Hazor to construct a solar facility integrated with an energy storage system above the kibbutz's treated wastewater reservoir. The solar installation will have a capacity of 9.2 megawatts, and the storage system will have a capacity of 68.4 megawatt-hours. Each company will hold a 50% stake in the project, with an estimated total investment of approximately 70 million shekels. Commercial operation is slated to begin by the end of 2028.

The Hazor reservoir, located near Gan Yavne, holds treated wastewater originating from a nearby sewage treatment plant. The solar panels will float on the reservoir's surface, and solar cells will also be installed on its sides. The companies project first-year revenues from the project to reach about 10.5 million shekels. The electricity generated will be sold to private electricity suppliers, who are expected to pass on some of the savings to private and business consumers.

The facility is anticipated to produce 15.7 million kilowatt-hours annually, roughly equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of 2,000 households. Last week, Carasso Energy and Tamnat announced the commencement of operations at an energy storage facility in Silistra, Bulgaria. This Bulgarian facility is larger than the one planned for Hazor, with a storage capacity of 317 megawatt-hours.

Dan Naor, CEO of Tamnat Energy, stated that "winning the Hazor project is another milestone in solidifying the companies' position in the renewable energy market." Aviv Pepper, CEO of Carasso Energy, added, "This is a long-term project, carefully selected with strategic partners."
