As the NBA season approaches, analyst Dan Favale of Bleacher Report discussed Israeli player Denny Avdija's role with the Portland Trail Blazers, highlighting his potential alongside new teammates Damian Lillard and Ja Morant. Favale praised Avdija's performance last season and in the current preseason, suggesting he is currently undervalued on his existing contract.
Favale believes Avdija's ability to penetrate the paint will become easier with the offensive support from Lillard and Morant, leading to more open three-point opportunities. He also raised the question of who will be the go-to player in clutch moments, suggesting Avdija should be that player, despite a potential decrease in his own drives to the basket.
In parallel, Eurohoops ranked Avdija as the sixth-best European player in the league, placing him ahead of players like Alperen Şengün and Lauri Markkanen, but behind stars such as O.G. Anunoby, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, and Nikola Jokić.
Favale further compared Avdija to Jimmy Butler, noting that while their styles differ, Avdija possesses a similar clutch ability to take over games and score when needed. He anticipates Avdija will score more points this season due to improved shooting and his role on the team, considering him among the league's top 20 players last year.
