Cyprus is reportedly interested in acquiring advanced laser defense systems from the Israeli defense company Rafael, according to the local Cypriot website Philenews. This interest follows Cyprus's recent addition of another Barak MX air defense battery from Israel Aerospace Industries to its National Guard.
The Cypriot interest specifically targets Rafael's "Light-B-Dome" system, a miniaturized laser system with a 10-kilowatt output. Unlike the larger, 100-kilowatt "Or Eitan" system, the Light-B-Dome is designed for mobility, suitable for installation on 4x4 vehicles or armored personnel carriers to provide tactical protection against drones and UAVs for maneuvering forces. Cyprus is also reportedly interested in Rafael's Iron Dome and Drone Dome systems. Iron Dome is Israel's flagship air defense technology, and Drone Dome is a modular system for detecting, identifying, and neutralizing drone threats using radar and electronic warfare capabilities.
The article also briefly touches on other international news, including Turkey's apparent evasion of a military alliance with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, instead pursuing diplomatic engagement with Iran, the patron of the Houthi rebels. Additionally, it notes a surge in demand for logistics centers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, driven by companies seeking to stockpile goods amid concerns over supply chain disruptions, with major real estate deals and new distribution centers being established.
