Four individuals were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of criminal and economic offenses linked to the Hapoel Ironi Tiberias football club. The investigation, conducted over recent months by Lahav 433, Israel's national fraud investigation unit, involved collaboration with the Israel Football Association, the Tax Authority, the National Insurance Institute, and the Registrar of Associations.

Investigators suspect offenses including obtaining property by deception, false registration in corporate documents, forgery, money laundering, and failure to report wages paid to players to tax authorities. The estimated scale of the alleged offenses amounts to tens of millions of shekels. Lahav 433 believes these offenses were systematically committed over four seasons. Luxury vehicles and real estate were seized during the arrests of senior officials.

In the coming days, dozens of current and former football players are expected to be summoned for questioning by Lahav 433 and the Tax Authority. This probe follows previous sanctions against the club. In April, Hapoel Ironi Tiberias had eight points deducted from its league standing, and began the current season with a six-point deficit due to an indictment alleging the club operated a parallel contractual, budgetary, and accounting system outside the oversight of the Football Association's budget control.

An additional indictment was filed in July against the club concerning aiding in the use of drugs and performance-enhancing substances under aggravating circumstances, violating association regulations, and failing to comply with a judicial decision. According to suspicion, club officials purchased saline solutions and administered over 100 ml, exceeding the permitted amount, to several players before a relegation playoff match last season.
