Maccabi Tel Aviv, currently struggling with a 4-1 EuroLeague record after a loss to Barcelona, is reportedly interested in American swingman John Konchar. The 30-year-old player is in a peculiar career phase, having posted decent stats for Utah in the 2025-2026 season before being traded to Minnesota and immediately released. He then signed with the New York Knicks for training camp but was waived just two weeks later, prior to any preseason games, under unclear circumstances.
According to Yahoo, Konchar's departure from the Knicks raised significant questions, with reporter Ian Begley suggesting the split was mutual due to a personal matter Konchar was addressing. Begley indicated that the phrasing "at this stage" leaves Konchar's next move open, without confirming a return to New York or the Knicks' future involvement.
Prior to signing with the Knicks, Konchar had attracted interest from other NBA teams, including Miami, Orlando, and Toronto, according to reports. His release from the Knicks, a team that added an experienced NBA player with other options, before he could be publicly evaluated in preseason games, has drawn considerable attention.
