Smart, a brand jointly owned by Mercedes-Benz and Geely, has unveiled the all-electric Smart #2 at the Paris Motor Show. This new model marks a return to the brand's original compact DNA, moving away from the larger SUVs and crossovers that had previously diverged from its core identity. The Smart #2 is the modern electric successor to the original Fortwo, which debuted 30 years ago.

The production version of the Smart #2, which was previewed as a concept in China in April, will be manufactured in China, like all current Smart models. It retains the two-door, two-seat configuration, measuring 2.75 meters in length with a remarkably small turning radius of 3.35 meters. The design, originating from Mercedes-Benz's design studios, features a contemporary front end with a continuous LED light bar and a two-tone paint scheme reminiscent of earlier Smart cars.

Inside, the cabin boasts a 10.1-inch floating multimedia screen, a digital instrument cluster, high-quality materials, and advanced active safety systems offering Level 2 autonomy. An optional premium audio system from Sennheiser is also available. The cargo space has been significantly increased compared to previous generations, offering between 305 and 527 liters depending on the seat configuration.

Powering the Smart #2 is a rear-mounted 60 kWh electric motor producing approximately 81 horsepower and 130 Newton-meters of torque. A 35.8 kWh LFP battery from CATL provides an official WLTP range of up to 290 kilometers, double that of the outgoing model. The vehicle supports fast charging up to 65 kW, enabling rapid charging at public stations.

In Europe, pre-orders for the Smart #2 are now open with a competitive starting price of €20,000. The car is slated for release in Israel through importer Colmobil during the second quarter of 2027. The estimated price in Israel is expected to be between 115,000 and 125,000 shekels, contingent on the continuation of purchase tax discounts for electric vehicles, which could significantly impact its market success.
