Shane Larkin to Leave Anadolu Efes for Fenerbahce, Paying His Own Buyout
Fenerbahce is putting together a major summer, and in the past 24 hours the Turkish club has reportedly finalized three important EuroLeague signings, led by Shane Larkin. The 33-year-old guard has spent the last eight seasons with archrival Anadolu Efes and is now set to join Fenerbahce.
Larkin is under contract with Anadolu Efes through the summer of 2028, on a deal worth close to $4 million per season. Because he wants out, he will give up the money due to him over the final two years of that contract and will also compensate the club himself.
According to BasketNews, Larkin will pay $400,000 out of pocket to complete the move, an unusual step in European basketball, where players rarely pay their own release fees. The amount is roughly equal to one month of his current salary.
He is also taking a major pay cut at his new club. Reports in Europe say his two-year Fenerbahce contract will pay him between $2.5 million and $3 million per season, meaning the transfer will cost him significant earnings overall.
