Shane Larkin could leave Anadolu Efes this summer despite still being under contract, after a frustrating season in which he played only 12 EuroLeague games. Serbian reports say Red Star Belgrade is determined to sign the Turkish club’s star guard, with new sporting director Milos Teodosic leading what one outlet called a move that could “shake Europe.”
According to Telegraph, Red Star is trying to take advantage of the opening around Larkin and has already opened talks with both the player and his agent. The club has pursued him before, but previous attempts were blocked by his salary demands. This time, the report says, “it is a different matter.”
Larkin has dealt with repeated injuries recently and missed 45 games last season. When he did play in EuroLeague, he produced 15.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. He won two EuroLeague titles with Anadolu Efes in Istanbul.
Before that, Larkin began his EuroLeague career with Baskonia in the 2016/17 season, then returned briefly to the NBA with the Boston Celtics before coming back to Europe and joining Efes. The latest reports suggest Red Star is trying to move quickly while the opportunity remains open.
