Shane Larkin, the longtime Anadolu Efes guard and two-time EuroLeague champion in Istanbul, could leave the Turkish club this summer despite still being under contract. After reports last week said Larkin wants to leave Anadolu, Serbian media now say Red Star Belgrade is determined to sign him, with newly appointed sporting director Milos Teodosic leading what one outlet described as a move that could “shake up Europe.”
According to Telegraf, Red Star is “determined to seize this moment and the opening around Larkin,” and talks have already begun with the player and his agent. The club has previously tried to land him, but those efforts failed because of his salary demands. This time, the report says, the situation is different.
Larkin’s recent seasons have been disrupted by injuries. He played only 12 EuroLeague games in the latest campaign and missed 45 matches overall last season. When he did play, he produced 15.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game in EuroLeague competition.
Before joining Anadolu Efes, Larkin began his EuroLeague career with Baskonia in the 2016/17 season, then returned to the NBA for one year with the Boston Celtics before coming back to Europe. He later won two EuroLeague titles with Anadolu.
