Navi Pillay, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced Friday in Oslo. Pillay, a jurist from South Africa, previously served as a judge at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. She also headed the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, established in 2021 following Operation Guardian of the Walls. The commission, under her leadership, accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

Pillay currently serves as an ad hoc judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN's principal judicial organ, in a case against Myanmar for genocide. In response to her award, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The committee in Oslo has awarded the prize to the greatest lie of the 21st century. Joseph Goebbels is surely applauding from hell."
