Captain Eliab Haim Tzfalamus, a 21-year-old from Haifa, was killed Thursday when a military Humvee overturned in the Litani River area of southern Lebanon. Tzfalamus served as a combat officer in the 603rd Battalion of the 7th Brigade. Three other soldiers sustained light injuries in the accident.

This incident follows two previous fatalities in Lebanon in August. Major (Res.) Harel Birnstock and Sergeant Major (Res.) Tamir Waknin were killed by an explosive device detonation in the village of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon. Four other reservists were seriously wounded in that attack. Birnstock commanded a company in the 2855th Battalion of the 55th Brigade, and Waknin was a soldier in the same battalion.

Birnstock and Waknin were the first IDF casualties in Lebanon since late June, when Captain David Hazut was killed in a clash with a Hezbollah operative.
