A Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from the French party "La France Insoumise," Rima Hassan, is at the center of a scandal following an incident at an exhibition in Strasbourg commemorating the victims of the October 7 Hamas attack. The event, reported by Europe1, occurred on the evening of October 5 within the European Parliament building. According to eyewitnesses, Hassan engaged in an argument with Israeli artist Yaron Bob, claiming the exhibition presented the October 7 events one-sidedly. She then allegedly threw Israeli and European Union flags to the floor and walked on them.

Vice-President of the European Parliament Pina Picierno stated that Hassan "desecrated" the exhibition and accused her of antisemitism. Following the incident, the exhibition was tidied up. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola declared on October 6 that the parliament's leadership is taking the event "extremely seriously." She added that proceedings according to regulations are underway, and Hassan will be given an opportunity to present her position.

Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa'ar called the incident "shameful and outrageous." In a post on social media platform X, Sa'ar wrote, "The desecration of the exhibition commemorating the victims of October 7 by the radical left MEP Rima Hassan primarily shows how little respect she has for the very institution in which she works." He also thanked MEPs who immediately condemned Hassan's actions and Roberta Metsola for indicating that such a deed would be considered "with the utmost severity."
