Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Tuesday condemned European Parliament member Rima Hassan for vandalizing an exhibition commemorating the victims of the October 7th Hamas attacks. Saar described Hassan's actions as "shameful and audacious, but unfortunately not surprising," adding that the vandalism demonstrated "how little respect she has for the institution in which she serves."

The incident occurred Tuesday morning at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where a memorial exhibit featuring photos and objects related to the October 7th massacre had been installed. The exhibit was initiated by Hildegard Bentele, Chair of the EU Parliament's Delegation to Israel, and included artists and survivors of the attack.

Witnesses reported that a woman spoke with individuals at the memorial site before bringing Hassan, a French parliamentarian of Palestinian descent considered part of the far-left wing of the European Parliament, to the scene. According to reports, Hassan then took Israeli flags from the exhibit and threw them on the floor.

Saar commended fellow Members of the European Parliament who immediately condemned the act and thanked European Parliament President Roberta Metsola for her determination to address the offense "in the harshest way possible." A complaint has been filed against Hassan following the incident.
