Israel Police and Border Police uncovered a tunnel that had been dug from the West Bank toward Israel near the al-Zaim crossing, at a depth of about 25 meters. At the site, officers found digging tools, water bottles, gloves and face masks.
Forensic investigators collected DNA and other evidence that led to the identification of two suspects in their 30s, a Palestinian from al-Eizariya and a resident of East Jerusalem. The two were arrested in the early morning hours and taken in for questioning.
Police suspect the tunnel was dug recently and was intended to facilitate terror activity as well as the smuggling of illegal residents into Israel.
