Yishayahu Rotenberg, a 68-year-old community benefactor and prominent member of the Gur Hassidic community in Bnei Brak, died suddenly on the bus while traveling to Jerusalem for Simchat Torah celebrations. Rotenberg was on his way to be in the presence of the Rebbe of Gur when he collapsed. Medical teams performed prolonged resuscitation efforts at the Golda Meir-Sefat Hayim intersection in Jerusalem before transporting him, still undergoing resuscitation, to Hadassah Har HaTzofim Hospital, where his death was tragically confirmed. ZAKA volunteers from the Jerusalem district provided support to the family. Rotenberg, born in the U.S. in 1957, was the son of Yitzchak Avraham Rotenberg and Esther Rotenberg. He studied in Gur institutions and lived in Bnei Brak, where he prayed at the local Gur Hassidic synagogue. He was known for his kindness and service to the sick, always with a pleasant demeanor. This is the second such incident within the Gur community recently; Yehuda Aryeh Schnur, another prominent Gur Hassid from Arad, died at age 64 on a bus traveling from Arad to Hazor on the eve of the first holiday. Rotenberg's funeral was scheduled for Monday evening at 10:30 PM from Shagar Funeral Home in Jerusalem to Har HaMenuchot cemetery, where he was to be buried next to his father.
