Lebanon's President and U.S. Officials Discuss Ceasefire Oversight and State Authority
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun held separate phone calls with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The conversations focused on the talks in Switzerland and on setting up an American-Lebanese-Iranian mechanism to oversee the ceasefire.
According to Aoun’s office, the president thanked Washington for its attention to Lebanon as efforts continue to end the war. He said the U.S. role helps strengthen the authority of the Lebanese state and its independent decision-making.
Aoun’s office added that Lebanon is the sole body responsible for protecting national sovereignty, the dignity of Lebanese citizens, and their safety.
