Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency have arrested a 25-year-old Israeli citizen, מחמד פהמי מחמד חלף, from Baqa al-Gharbiyye, on suspicion of contacting Iranian intelligence agents and carrying out missions under their direction in exchange for payment. The arrest was the result of a joint operation involving investigators from the coastal district's intelligence unit, the cyber unit of Lahav 433, and the Shin Bet.

According to the investigation's findings, חלף was in online contact with an enemy agent and performed a series of tasks for them. Police and the Shin Bet stated that this case is another instance where Iranian intelligence has recruited Israeli citizens to advance terrorist activities against the State of Israel.

Following the joint investigation, which police and the Shin Bet claim has established sufficient evidence against the suspect, the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office is expected to file an indictment against him in the Haifa District Court for offenses related to contact with a foreign agent. Police and the Shin Bet emphasized that they "view with severity any involvement of Israeli citizens in activities that endanger the country's security" and pledged to continue working to thwart threats and prosecute those involved. They also urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid conversations with unknown individuals online, and report any suspicious requests received from them.
