Israel to Enhance Pilot Screening After Flydubai Flight Attack

Israel will implement stricter security checks for all pilots flying into the country following a serious incident aboard a flydubai flight, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office. The second pilot on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv allegedly stabbed the captain and then attempted to disable the aircraft. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered enhanced security measures for all flights arriving in Israel, regardless of the airline's origin.

Doron Spielman, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's office, stated that "we will check the identities of every pilot who will fly to Israel and conduct certain security checks." These measures aim to ensure more rigorous security procedures for all inbound flights, including those operated by foreign carriers. The incident has raised concerns about existing screening protocols for pilots operating routes to and from Israel, as well as within the wider Middle East region.

The motive behind the second pilot's actions remains unclear. Reuters has reported that authorities in the United Arab Emirates have not yet provided information regarding their pilot qualification screening procedures.
