Israeli Filmmakers Launch Documentary to Counter Gaza War Criticism

Three Israelis have produced a new documentary, "NAZA: The True Story," intended as a direct response to the controversial film "NAZA" that premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The original film reportedly questioned the actions of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip. The new documentary aims to present the Israeli perspective on the conflict, utilizing testimonies and evidence gathered on the ground.

The project was initiated by reserve Lieutenant Colonel Roy Danino, pro-Israel activist Ariel Averbuch, and Hagai Gutman. Portions of the film were secretly shot at night on rooftops in Tel Aviv, with the identities of other participants kept confidential for security reasons. The documentary features accounts from IDF commanders and intelligence officers, alongside operational footage, war videos, and materials claimed to have been seized during combat.

Key themes explored include the fight against Hamas terrorist infrastructure, the complexities of hostage rescue operations, and the delivery of humanitarian aid within a war zone. The filmmakers also highlight methods attributed to Hamas, such as the alleged use of civilian areas for military purposes, the presence of terrorists in civilian attire, weapon storage in civilian facilities, and the purported diversion of humanitarian aid.

The creators stated their goal is to provide concrete evidence to the international public, moving beyond mere public relations. They described the film as "offensive, not defensive," aiming to shift the focus to Hamas's role and the conditions under which the IDF conducted its operations. The documentary, which has been subtitled in English and will be translated into multiple languages, seeks to reach international media, opinion leaders, and the global audience with "the Israeli truth."
