Roman Sorkin Signs Extended Deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv Through 2030

Israeli basketball player Roman Sorkin has officially signed an upgraded four-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv, extending his tenure with the club until 2030. The new deal is reportedly worth approximately $6 million over its duration, averaging $1.5 million per season, a significant increase from his previous contract which paid around $900,000 annually. The negotiations, which had been delayed, were finalized by Maccabi's professional manager Claudio Coldebella and the player's representatives.

Sorkin, who emerged as Maccabi's leading center last season, had a career-best year averaging 13.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in the EuroLeague. He was also instrumental in securing the Israeli league championship, scoring the final five points in the deciding game against Hapoel Tel Aviv.

The team is currently preparing for a double-header week in the EuroLeague, seeking their first win after an opening loss to Villeurbanne. They are set to face Besiktas in Belgrade on Wednesday, followed by an away game against Panathinaikos on Friday. Coach Oded Kattash expressed his desire for the team to return to playing in Israel soon and emphasized the need for increased aggression and physicality in their upcoming games.

Key players like Jaron Blossomgame and Keeton Wallace are expected to improve their performance after disappointing outings in the previous game. However, John DiBartolomeo and Gur Lavi will be unavailable for the upcoming matches, with DiBartolomeo attending his brother's wedding in the US and Lavi remaining in Israel.
