Repeat Offender Jailed for 10 Years After Drunk Driving While Disqualified

A serial offender in Beersheba has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term and an extended driving ban after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol while already disqualified for ten years. This marks the fourth time in a decade he has been caught driving while his license was suspended.

The incident occurred late at night when police observed a suspicious vehicle and signaled the driver to stop. Instead, the driver sped away, initiating a nighttime chase through Beersheba streets. The driver attempted to evade capture by switching seats with a passenger, moving from the driver's seat to the back, in a bid to avoid responsibility.

Police pursued the vehicle until it was cornered in a dead-end street. The prosecution sought severe punishment, emphasizing the defendant's repeated offenses and disregard for the law. The defense argued for leniency, citing failed rehabilitation attempts.

The court rejected any leniency, stating that all attempts to rehabilitate the driver outside of prison had failed. The judges determined that the driver posed a significant danger to the public due to his persistent violations and complete disregard for the law and human life. Consequently, the court imposed a substantial prison sentence and a further long-term driving prohibition to protect other road users.
