Driver Sentenced to Seven Years for Fatal Reckless Driving
The Beersheba District Court has sentenced Suria Abu Arar, 44, to seven years in prison for the negligent homicide of a young engaged couple. The fatal accident occurred approximately one year ago when Abu Arar, driving with her young children in the car, recklessly overtook two vehicles. She accelerated to 124 kph (77 mph) on a road with a speed limit of 90 kph (56 mph) and crossed a solid dividing line.
Her actions resulted in a head-on collision with the car carrying the engaged couple, Eliab Abuksis, 23, and his fiancée Shachaf Danino, 28. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Following the sentencing, a disturbance broke out in the courtroom.
