Ronan Bergman Demands Apology, NIS 50,000 from Yinon Magal

Investigative journalist Ronan Bergman has sent a legal warning letter to Yinon Magal, host of the Channel 14 program "HaPatriotim," demanding a public apology and NIS 50,000 in compensation. The letter, sent via Bergman's lawyers, concerns an item aired on "HaPatriotim" that Bergman alleges falsely presented him as having revealed the "Beepers Operation" before it was carried out, thereby endangering the mission and national security.

Bergman vehemently denies these claims, calling them false and defamatory. The item, aired under the title "Foreign Publications, A Month Before the Elections, Foreign Media Continue to Publish About the Transfer of Advance Information," reportedly quoted Magal describing Bergman's alleged statements as "confusing," "babbling," and "panic-stricken." Magal also stated, "I spoke with the entourage of, let's say, Netanyahu."

Bergman's letter asserts that his response was not sought before the segment aired and that the publication is part of a sustained campaign of defamation against him and his journalistic work. The letter argues that Magal's statements and framing were intended to manipulate viewers' perceptions, damage Bergman's reputation, portray him as negligent, and humiliate him.

Bergman demands that Magal cease distributing the item and its clips and refrain from further publication. He also requires a full on-air apology during the next broadcast and a written apology on social media and other platforms where the item was shared. The proposed apology text states, "I was mistaken, and I clarify that what I said in the item and its title was not true. I retract the publication and apologize to Dr. Bergman for the statements."

In addition to the apology, Bergman demands NIS 50,000 in compensation within seven days. He requires the cessation of distribution and the issuance of the correction within 24 hours of the letter's delivery. Bergman intends to pursue legal action if these demands are not met.
