National Security Minister Ben Gvir Demands Apology and Compensation from Gadi Eisenkot Over Podcast Remarks

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir sent a legal warning letter to former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot on Wednesday, demanding an apology, removal of a podcast episode, and 100,000 shekels in compensation. The letter follows Eisenkot's comments in an interview on the podcast "How to Do Things," where he criticized certain politicians for promoting violent rhetoric on social media, specifically referencing Ben Gvir by name. Eisenkot stated that some politicians use TikTok videos to incite violence, describing the phenomenon associated with Ben Gvir as "very disturbing and unsettling."

Ben Gvir's lawyer, Ze'ev Wolf, argued that Eisenkot's statements falsely portrayed the minister as violent, racist, and encouraging youth to kill, which Ben Gvir denies. The letter claims these remarks exceed legitimate political criticism and constitute defamation. It also notes that the interview was broadcast by the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation and shared by Eisenkot's party, "Straight to Israel with Eisenkot," accumulating over 1.38 million views.

Ben Gvir demands that within 72 hours, Eisenkot publish a coordinated apology and retraction, remove the interview from all platforms, and request its removal from the broadcaster and other outlets. The 100,000 shekel compensation was proposed as an out-of-court settlement. Failure to comply will lead Ben Gvir to instruct his attorney to initiate legal proceedings without further notice.
