Zach LeDay Returns to Israel, Aiming for Championship with Hapoel Tel Aviv

Forward Zach LeDay has returned to Israeli basketball, signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv this past summer. This marks his first time playing in Israel since his rookie season with Gilboa Galil nearly a decade ago. In an interview with Sport Channel, LeDay expressed his excitement about the homecoming, calling it a "full circle moment" but emphasizing his ambition to help Hapoel achieve its goals.

LeDay believes Hapoel has the potential for a Final Four appearance, stating that while the roster is still developing, the team has what it takes to compete. He was drawn to Hapoel by the club's aspirations, its owner Ofer Yanai, and coach Daniiel Itoudis, feeling he is a perfect fit for the team. LeDay acknowledged Yanai's contributions and pledged the team's support in pursuing their objectives.

Addressing the pressure surrounding the club, LeDay contrasted it with the real-life pressures faced by his mother, who worked multiple jobs to support him. He views basketball as a game and aims to build a strong bond with his teammates and coaches, fostering a family atmosphere where they will fight for each other. LeDay described his role as being a constant presence and support for his teammates, working tirelessly on and off the court. He admires Tamir Blatt, calling him a "great player" whose contributions he has always admired, and believes any player can help the team. LeDay stressed that the season is a marathon, not a sprint, and the team has much room for growth, learning from past experiences like the derby loss.

Reflecting on his career, LeDay mentioned moments of awe but stated he remains focused on the work, driven by a hunger to achieve more. He expressed a desire to make history with Hapoel Tel Aviv, feeling more driven than ever. He fondly recalled his time at Gilboa Galil, highlighting the hard work and dedication that shaped his early career and thanking the people he worked with there. He also spoke highly of former teammate Jacob Pullen, whom he considers a "big brother" and one of the best point guards he has played with.

LeDay had no reservations about returning to Israel, motivated by the organization and the opportunity to compete for championships. He finds Tel Aviv to be one of the best places in Europe and enjoys the city. He is adapting to the team's large roster of 23 players, viewing it as a new challenge. His personal success will be measured by his ability to elevate the team and bring titles, a goal he has achieved elsewhere and believes is attainable for Hapoel through consistent daily effort.
