Maccabi Tel Aviv Parts Ways With Long-Time Manager Yoav Ziv
Maccabi Tel Aviv has dismissed Yoav Ziv from his position as team manager after nine years with the club. Ziv, who previously played for Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2010 to 2016, returned in 2017 to take on the managerial role. Raz Ben Shimon is expected to replace him, though Ziv may remain with the club in a different capacity.
The decision comes after Ziv's involvement in a violent altercation at the end of last season's State Cup final, which reportedly angered club officials. Ziv had a lengthy playing career before becoming manager, debuting in the Premier League with Maccabi Haifa in the 2000/01 season. He also played for Hapoel Haifa, Hapoel Nazareth Illit, Beitar Jerusalem, and Belgian club Lierse SK.
During his playing career, Ziv won six league championships, two State Cups, and one Toto Cup. He also represented the Israeli national team 32 times. His tenure as manager saw the club achieve significant success, but his recent disciplinary issue appears to have led to his departure.
