IDF Eliminates Hamas Northern Gaza Commander, Key October 7 Planner
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet security agency announced the elimination of Azz al-Din al-Bik, identified as the commander of Hamas's Northern Gaza Strip brigade and a key planner of the October 7th attacks. The operation took place overnight in Gaza City.
According to the IDF and Shin Bet, al-Bik was responsible for managing the brigade's operatives, directing terror attacks against Israeli forces and civilians, and working to rebuild the brigade's capabilities after significant wartime damage. The military stated he posed an immediate threat and was targeted in a precise strike at his hideout in the al-Naser neighborhood of western Gaza City.
Sources in Gaza reported that al-Bik had survived four previous assassination attempts by Israel, with the most recent occurring in May. He was considered a central figure in Hamas's military council, overseeing combat and defense in Gaza City and playing a role in the October 7th massacre's planning.
Hamas sources reportedly placed significant importance on al-Bik's role in northern Gaza, particularly in the Beit Hanoun and Jabalia areas. Some within the organization referred to him as the "breaker of the generals' plan" due to his involvement in managing forces against the IDF's maneuvers throughout 2024.
