Eyal Berkovic Slams Israel Soccer Team After Humiliating Loss

Former Israeli soccer star Eyal Berkovic has launched a scathing critique of the national team following their devastating 3-0 halftime defeat to Ireland. The match, already fraught with political tension due to statements from the Irish coach and threats of boycotts against Israeli players, devolved into a national pride battle on the field.

Berkovic, who has expressed a desire to coach the national team, stated on the "The Wizard and His Sons" podcast that he would have made five substitutions at halftime if he were in charge. He went further, declaring he would refuse to coach a team that performed so poorly, stating, "This disgrace, I'm not coming up. I don't want to coach you. Figure it out yourselves, you'll do better without me."

While acknowledging criticism directed at coach Ran Ben Shimon, Berkovic emphasized that the players bear primary responsibility for the abysmal performance. "Where are the players? Didn't they play yesterday?" he questioned, highlighting a perceived lack of defensive capability and issues with player agents. "Is this a logical defense quartet? It's not a defense quartet. For 20 years, we haven't had a center-back. Does such a thing exist? I have harsh criticism of the players."
